Multi-awarded Filo-Aussie performer Marcus Rivera is set to host a gig of a lifetime, as Master of Ceremonies in Sydney of the upcoming Australian national tour of Lea Salonga, the world-famous singer and actress who hails from the Philippines.
The concert is set to be the most anticipated show not just in the Filipino-Australian community event calendar but in theatre circles. Lea is a global star, having played the original 'Kim' in Miss Saigon and as recipient of a Tony Award and Olivier Award. The young-at-hearts will also recognise her voice as Mulan and Jasmine (in Disney's 'Aladdin').
"I'm excited to be part of her show and can't wait to watch her performance. This is her first concert in Sydney and I'm sure her legion of fans are counting the days before the big event," he said.
Rivera, who will also perform a short set at the concert, was recently part of the King & I musical ensemble in Australia. He shares a Miss Saigon connection with the global star. In 2007-08, he scored the role of the engineer in the Miss Saigon Australia tour.
A recipient of the 2013 City of Sydney Counter Tenor Award, he is working on an album dedicated to kundiman (traditional Philippine folk music) and staging his own concert later this year.
Rivera said that the show’s producer, Oz Pinoy Home Loan, will be donating a portion of ticket sales to Help After Haiyan, a typhoon Yolanda fundraising initiative based in Sydney that he supports.
When booking online, write #helpafterhaiyan under the Special Notes section so that $10 is donated to the appeal.
